I Would Die 4 U – Prince {queer interpretation & my unrequited love story 🏳️‍🌈} 💜

This post is edited to fix it up a bit but is essentially the same.

⚠️: not the topic, but brief mention of depression/su*cidal inclination/s*icide

This is my true story.

“Tell me how to win your heart
For I haven’t got a clue
But let me start by saying
I love you” ❤️

When I was 18-20 years old (around 18-20 years ago), I was head over heels in love with another girl, a gay girl who hardly knew of my existence. I loved her secretly and never acted on it, but it was one of the most passionate loves I have ever known. I loved her with every fiber of my being, more than life itself. It was a fierce burning love that consumed all of me. There is still a vestige of that love living somewhere in me today, permanent, like a tattoo on the very soul of me.

She was a cisgender masc woman, a stereotypical gay woman with short black hair, and warm brown eyes. Very outgoing, the kind of person everyone liked. She was genuinely interested in people. She was around 30 years old when we met. The age difference did not matter. It doesn’t matter to me how much older someone is than me.

I remember the moment we first met. It was a cold mid-December afternoon in 2004. I saw her across the crowded lobby, holding her jacket, standing with a couple of people, smiling & looking around. It was one of those moments where time stands still. The place was packed, but I only saw her. I had no idea who she was or that our lives would soon cross paths & touch ever so briefly but impact me so profoundly. I was instantly drawn to her. A feeling of excitement automatically ran through me. She was around the same size as me, a wh!te woman wearing glasses with a backpack on. She was wearing blue jeans & a long-sleeved plaid shirt with the sleeves pulled up & sandals with socks.

I don’t remember the color of her shirt, but I vividly remember the sandals with socks; I thought it was cute & not something I saw often, something conventionally considered a fashion fail, but she pulled it off adorably. She exuded self-confidence.

Her hair was short (like what is typical for a man) & messy, sticking in all directions. She had a masculine way of moving; she was clearly a woman/fem presenting person but with a degree of masculinity, even the way she would brush her fingers through her hair or rub her hand down her face, was conventionally man-like. She was what someone would call boyish or tomboy. There was something macho in her mannerisms & appearance, masculine, but not so much so that she could be mistaken for a man. Anyone could see she was just a non gender conforming woman. She had the gender identity of a woman & was assigned female at birth.

Her voice was feminine & so was her laugh. She sometimes wore men’s cologne. I loved getting a whiff of her cologne. It was beyond thrilling when she would walk by me in her masculine way with her cologne wafting around me; my heart would race because of the thrill (men don’t do that to me, only women do, lol). Even now, I can feel the thrill, just remembering. I so want that experience again with someone else, someone who loves me back.

She had tattoos on her arms & a large silver watch on her wrist that was probably intended for a man. It added to her masculinity. And the whole masc thing drove me wild. When she would move in her masc ways, it was a big “turn-on.” It thrilled me to the core, sometimes sending my heart racing & making me giddy. Extreme joy & light would fill me to the brim. No makeup, occasionally she wore a necklace & small earrings. Some days I would see her dressed professionally, in pantsuits or shirts with collars. 🥵 Sometimes she wore baseball caps. I thought she was adorable.

Her aesthetic/style/appearance was very different than mine. I had hair long enough to sit on. It would hang over chairs when I would sit down & reach the floor when I laid in bed & threw my hair over the side. I wore large silver loop earrings & always had painted nails or, once in a while, even a French manicure if I was able to get the money 😁 I wore belly shirts that showed my whole midriff & low cut blue jeans with 5-inch stiletto heels & too much eyeshadow. I was told by different people that I looked like a stripper or a wh0re or asked if I was one lol

There’s no denying there was some kind of instant attraction that wasn’t sexual in nature but was very gay. lol I wouldn’t dare admit that back then.

The day I first met her, she walked over and leaned over me to look at something in back of me. She was mumbling something half to herself & half to me. Her face was in mine but off to the side. I was leaning on my side against a wall with my back against a long table that was pushed up against the wall I was leaning on and another wall in back of me. She wanted to see a poster or something on the wall in back of me.

The table and me were blocking her. And instead of asking me to move, she just leaned over me, lightly brushing up against me with her whole body. Instantly, an uncontrollable tingling feeling began in my fingertips & surged through my whole body to the tips of my toes, almost like if you take a shot of something alcoholic. I still remember it so vividly & just the way it felt to be around her. It’s a pleasant memory and gives me hope that I can have that again one day with someone who loves me back.

Her body just barely touched mine, but it was enough for me to feel something being that close. It felt not platonic but wasn’t sexual. While it was a pleasant sensation, could have even been thrilling, I was disturbed because I thought it made me gay and that that could potentially make me a target of homophobia even if I told no one. And I absolutely would not have told anyone at all back then, even if I trusted them, because then it would be out there in the uni-verse.

But even just keeping it to myself I did not want it to be true or to acknowledge it. I loved her being that physically close to me. The tingling feeling really disturbed & confused me when I would occasionally feel it around her. She would also give me a racing heart sometimes, not because of anxiety, but thrill. I would be giddy & ecstatic seeing her across a street, walking or talking to someone. She definitely gave me feels.

I was jealous of the people who knew her outside the very limited context I did. I remember feeling real jealousy that they got to know & love her while I just lurked on the sidelines and hid in the shadows secretly pining for her. I would have loved to be anything to her, a friend, an acquaintance, her life partner. When I would see her with coffee or lunch, I thought about how lucky the servers were to get to interact with her even if only briefly. She was that amazing to me.

She was a bubbly, energetic person who could brighten anyone’s day or uplift any mood, like one of those energizing “feel good” songs that make you want to get up & dance whenever it plays. She was my sunshine. I kept trying to come up with a way I could make contact with her and get her into my world, but I was too shy. And that is the story of my life. Lol

I loved her deeply right away & wanted her in some intimate way that I could never express. I thought of her as my baby, and every love song reminded me of her. She was the first thing on my mind waking up & the last thing falling asleep. I wondered what she was up to, thought about when I would see her again, fantasized about becoming so close to her.

I was thrilled when I knew I would see her again. I found myself dressing to attempt to impress her. I wanted her to like me like I liked her & think I was beautiful. I don’t fully understand what sexual attraction is or feeling “horny” because I never developed those feelings. I can only imagine.

So all life long my brain has compensated for the lack of understanding by focusing on the aspects that I do understand or experience myself, like thinking someone is breathtaking and wanting to stare. I wanted her to want to stare at me, thinking I was breathtaking. I did not realize it could make her “horny.” Lol

People ask me why I would dress the way I do if I don’t want s*x or don’t feel sexual attraction. It’s because I experience the aesthetic aspect of it. Beautiful women, including myself, intoxicate me, but they don’t make me horny. So I was trying to get her to feel the same feeling I have when I see a beautiful woman. I knew gay people are sexually attracted to people of their own gender & it has something to do with hooking up & liking how someone looks, but I never understood in an organized way what it means, the underlying phenomena of it. My understanding was vague & mechanical, logical.

Like, my friend dates/looks at other men because he’s gay. Gay means sexually attracted to people of your own gender. So my friend is sexually attracted to other men & loves to look at them. That much I knew, but I had no idea what the underlying thing is going on, what sexual attraction feels like, what it even is. My brain summed it up to basically loving how someone looks, but I still sensed there’s more to it.

My love for her was all-encompassing. I thought of her in every single thing I did. I was cr@zy for her. She was the love of my life. I wanted her so desperately, & eventually, I could not imagine life without her.

“I’m not your lover,
I’m not your friend,
I am something that you’ll never comprehend” Prince

Prince’s lyrics really resonated with me then because the love I experienced for her was so fierce and passionate, and all-consuming, that it truly was hard to comprehend. I thought she could never grasp the depth & intensity of my love for her. I remember feeling that I would never be able to explain adequately enough for her to understand it, even if given the opportunity. I felt there were no words. I also remember being jealous of my own love for her because no one loved me that fiercely and maybe never would.

That was a prominent thing on my mind back then that I totally forgot about until writing this. Remembering that feeling now is so familiar, like a long lost friend, a feeling like how did someone get so lucky to be loved to this depth & wishing I had that love lavished onto me. It was not arrogance at all, but I remember thinking in a detached way how lucky someone is to be this loved by someone else, & not just a feeling, but there isn’t a thing I would not have done for her, even if it meant I had to lay down my own life in an instant.

I felt I would have her back & cheer her on all life long even if we weren’t in touch. And I knew then the love was unconditional & lifelong (and it is). It wasn’t an everyday kind of love. It was a love that felt like a comet hit the Earth. It’s something I wasn’t accustomed to.

I would imagine us walking around together late at night in center city, Philadelphia, looking at all the buildings. Going to restaurants and sitting on the same side of the table. I always thought that’s adorable when I see happy couples sitting on the same side, in each other’s faces, even when it’s just them. I always wanted that with someone. I saw us sitting together, discussing law & politics & psychology & philosophy. I imagined us going to events around the city & having a group of mutual friends and us being the main two, the closest ones.

Sometimes I would daydream of her having a girlfriend but being closer to me. Lol I had no idea I was fantasizing about emotional cheating. That wasn’t my intention. I simply wanted her as my close cuddly friend, as mine, but knew people usually have a romantic partner, so I just casually imagined that aspect in my daydreams.

In my dreams we would curl up together on a sofa, our bodies touching while we talked or watched movies. I would imagine her having bad days so I could hold her all night and caress her cheeks & hair. Sometimes, I would imagine us arguing and then making up with long, loving hugs. She often got into tiffs with people because of her insulting sense of humor.

She got a kick out of taking playful jabs at people, sometimes quite tactless, something I’m not a fan of but could tolerate in her. She always apologized more than once if someone was truly offended & said she felt terrible, it was genuine. She loved tasteless jokes. She would say things like “boo-hoo, cry me a f*cking river” if someone complained about something she found petty, especially something political. She ragged on Republicans.

I would imagine us being very emotionally & physically close. I did not have the nerve to daydream about (nonsexual) physical things with her. I never imagined her with no clothing, it never even occurred to me. I genuinely wasn’t interested. Thoughts about tenderly touching her would pop into my head, and I would instantly banish them. I imagined our faces touching, lips brushing each other’s, my hands cupping her cheeks, sliding up her shirt to gently rub her back, her hand in mine, caressing it, holding her close. My body would melt at the thought.

Then I would tell myself I can’t be gay, it wasn’t happening. So sometimes I would imagine her having a bad day (sometimes she did seem a bit dejected but was usually very cheerful) & me holding her close to comfort her. It was my excuse to imagine touching her without being gay about it. Lol

I would imagine her falling asleep in my arms & me running my fingers through her hair. I would tell myself I was going overboard with the fantasies for a “hetero” girl. I imagined nonsexual sleepovers, us falling asleep together, me holding her, my arms wrapped tightly around her, never letting go. My fantasies felt “too gay” even though they were never sexual. I knew people would think that if they knew, and I struggled with anxiety even though no one could find out. The biggest insecurity was that it was not as valid according to society because it was nonsexual.

The thought of me possibly being gay was stressful; there were occasions when it was low-key traumatic. But me being nonsexual was the biggest insecurity & stressor of all. It was mortifying & filled me with fear in every conversation with friends or peers, afraid they would catch on, but lying about having desire/experience felt so off and unnatural to me. I never heard of such a thing as me and thought I was the biggest fr3ak of nature.

I internalized society’s messages about people who are different & about romantic/sexual feelings being most important. Back then I never heard of asexuality. I had no idea there are more people like me. I had no idea how to even explain what I am; I could tell it runs so much deeper than a dysfunction & just “not wanting s*x.” It’s an ingrained part of me since birth. I couldn’t articulate it. The lack of that aspect did not make my love for her any less like society would have us believe.

I would imagine me buying her gifts, like cupcakes & coffee. I imagined her causally taking a swig of the beer she loved as we hung out on some apartment balcony in center city late at night, surrounded by the city lights, laughing about everything. In my mind, we listened to Phil Collins, George Michael, Billy Ocean, Hall & Oates…all night long & danced under the stars to our 80’s songs.

Now I understand that she would never have been interested in an 18-year-old anyway. When I was 30 years old, an 18-year-old wouldn’t even catch my eye or cross my mind. The age difference itself isn’t a problem; it’s not even that significant, but my age was a kid age. But at 18 years old I did not realize that. I couldn’t have cared less that she was 30 years old or even 50 years old. I just liked her, & that’s all that mattered.

Over a year later, after not seeing her anymore but knowing she was around still, I randomly saw her walking into the building where her work office was. I did not know she still worked there, but I did know she was still around that location even when I no longer saw her. I knew I could run into her again & had so much hope that I would.

I found myself going out of my way just to see her, going into the building when I had no reason to, & walking by her office to catch a glimpse. I would see her in professional mode in her glasses, shuffling papers around her desk, sometimes writing something down, pulling things out of a filing cabinet, talking to people, laughing & joking, & drinking coffee. And oh how it thrilled me. Every little thing she did amazed me, even the most mundane things. I loved her laugh. She intoxicated me. She had me spellbound.

I would walk by & listen to parts of her work conversations, not to hear what she was saying, but to hear her voice & that laugh. It was only for a few minutes, then I would leave. But it brought me so much joy. I secretly struggled with depression & su*cidal thoughts off & on. Sometimes just thoughts of her would ground me & keep me here when I really began to contemplate. She was my glimmer.

I used to walk to the subway sometimes right before seeing her & try to get up the courage to go when the train would come. I would get so close to the edge, & when the train would come speeding, I lost my nerve and would step back. Then I would see her & thank the heavens above that I stayed. Just a glimpse of her was enough to make me want to live. You never know who you may be helping or inspiring just being you.

I would run up like 14 (maybe more; it was like 20 years ago; my memory of some details is a bit hazy, lol) flights of stairs in my stilettos just to see her. I am claustrophobic (it’s dormant now but was active back then) & was afraid of the elevators. Her office was right there near the door at the top of the stairs. Her door was always open.

I used to have to open the door slightly & peer through to make sure she wasn’t walking out of her office as I was walking into the hallway because she did know of me (though I’m not sure she remembered me, my hair was so long that it stood out, people would stop me on the streets to comment on it, so that maybe could have given me away 😆), & I had no reason whatsoever to be there. I hoped the same people wouldn’t see me lurking around every day lol

It would have been awkward to come face to face with her like that, & I would have had some explaining to do. I wasn’t about to utter the truth, “Oh, I’m just lurking around stalking you because I’m in love with you.” She basically had no clue who I even was. She knew me a year before but only in a superficial way. I was just background noise to her. (I’m literally laughing out loud as I’m writing this and imagining that 🤣) 😆 Her back was to her door & to the side.

Thankfully, she never turned as I was running by every day. Creepy, I know. I would like to give the excuse that I was practically a kid, but I’ll admit that I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same now at nearly 40 years old if I met another woman & became absolutely whipped (and I can just as easily run up 14+ things of stairs today lol) 😂

She was a gay rights activist and openly gay. We chatted occasionally but were never friends or acquaintances. When her hand accidentally touched mine (and it was definitely not intentional, lol. She had zero interest in me – actually, one day she did affectionately touch my arm, but not that way), my whole body got warm fuzzies.

She asked to borrow my pen one day and then stopped writing and touched my arm to ask and make sure she wasn’t making me late for somewhere. She wasn’t, but even if she was, I would have said no. 😆 That warm gesture, I knew it did not mean much to her; I wasn’t delusional; it wasn’t personal on her part. But it stayed with me for a while. I felt that it really showed how caring she was.

I did not know her extremely well or know her very long. But I knew enough. She was outgoing but not a very open person with people in general. She said she was generally selective of who she opened up to. But I got a good idea of her general temperament, some of her life & career goals, & her sense of humor; she was very easily amused & lighthearted like me. She had very Liberal/progressive/feminist/atheist views, like me, volunteered at Democratic political events and the polls at every election.

She was anti-d3ath penalty & pro-choice. Very intelligent and intellectual, loved to read and discuss educational topics. She liked the same tv shows as me. She had a master’s degree & was working to get a phD. She loved to read educational texts just for fun. I also do! We had the same interest in topics like law & psychology. I would buy law textbooks at used. bookstores to impress her in case we became friends. lol I used to buy them just for me to read also, but I remember going out of my way and buying more, imagining how impressed she would be.

She looked “rough” on the outside or had a “rough around the edges” air about her & used the word “f*ck” a lot just in her general conversations and was sarcastic & outspoken. But she had a softness about her, a sensitivity; she was deeply compassionate for humans & animals and very kind, humble, loved kids.

There was a gentleness in her interactions with others. She called people “love” & “hon.” She was a softie inside, a fact that wasn’t evident at first glance and may not have ever been detected by people not particularly intuitive or not paying attention. I loved the combination of her bad@$$ery and warm softness. It suited her well. In a way, I knew her in a deep way, enough to know I truly loved her and wanted to spend forever with her.

I knew she was genuine, a good person; I would trust her with my life, my bank account, my secrets. But in another way, I only scratched the surface, most of what I knew was superficial. I knew she loved Jack Daniels beer and cheesesteaks and 80’s music (me too with the 80, lol. I am a vegetarian, though, so no steaks for me, also I’m not into alcohol, but we did have a lot in common also).

Another thing I knew about her is that she knew since she was little that she’s gay but kept it a secret until after she graduated undergraduate school because of fear of homophobia. Another gay woman she met inspired her to “come out.” I thought she was the most perfect amazing person I ever met. I ached for her, for her companionship, for her love. Back then I loved her more than anyone.

One day, someone said something homophobic to her, and she got very, very worked up & defensive and asked him how he (a nonwh!te man) liked it when he heard racist remarks & explained that’s how it feels to gay people hearing homophobic stuff. I wanted to walk over and hug her. I felt so guilty (and to this day, still do) for not defending her and all gay people. I felt very defensive of her. But I just stood there frozen in place, not able to open my mouth and speak up.

I remember this extremely self conscious, anxious feeling come over me, that he was going to think I was gay and target me next. There was no reason at all that he would think that, but I was self conscious about possibly being gay. I did not exactly think of myself as gay but still felt att@cked. He apologized to her.

She wanted to get married & have kids. Something I never wanted. So we weren’t compatible as life partners. I still wanted her though 😆 This is one indication that what I experience is lesbian oriented aromanticism (it’s a thing) and not exactly homoromanticism. Romantic attraction doesn’t usually have this boundary.

Romantic attraction often inspires feelings of wanting to build a life together and share every aspect especially things involving kids (or not having kids) and a home. For me it’s more about an intense emotional connection especially, and an element of sensuality and some unity, but overall separate lives but with the same level of importance to each other and emotional investment as romantic relationships.

I would have given my whole life to & for her. If I had to give my own life to save hers, I would not have hesitated. I would listen to this song by Prince over & over thinking about how it describes me and my love for her so so well. I’m not your lover, I’m not your friend….I am something that you’ll never comprehend…I did not want to date her or hook up with her, but I wanted to be her everything. And she was already mine. I wouldn’t have minded if she had a girlfriend and wanted to be close friends with me even if it wasn’t as close as I wanted.

I wanted to spend life together and see each other everyday, share whole nights together, but not “build a life” together or make big life decisions together. So her wanting kids did not matter to me because they wouldn’t be my responsibility. But now I know if we were as close & invested as I wanted to be, it would be expected of me to be closely involved with them too.

Since she’s a gay woman, she would be expecting a relationship where I would be the other mom. But before I fully understood how romantic relationships/feelings work, I wasn’t thinking of that. I was just thinking we would be each other’s person with separate lives. I thought she could have a wife/family along with me but separately, not thinking it would not be practical/ethical if they aren’t polyam.

I imagined her having a girlfriend or wife just because that’s how life usually works, it’s something everyone does. So when I would daydream or imagine life with her, I kind of causally imagined the wife, which she did not have yet, taking the back burner and her and me being each other’s main source of emotional connection and happiness & by each other’s side always, spending nights together connecting and talking about everything & nothing, being each other’s “date” to everything. While the wife just existed. Lol

I did think about how it would be very unlikely to meet someone who loves me as much as they would love a romantic partner or even more and be as close to me or even closer, but still thought there could be hope (not realizing it would be unethical/emotional cheating on the wife. Because it’s not sexual/fully romantic, I thought it was ok, now I know it’s not).

Years later after conversations with people and thinking it through, I realized I was actually kind of imagining these women I loved or a future one I hoped to meet as loving me romantically because unconsciously or on some level I kind of knew that’s likely what it would take for them to feel as close to me as I wanted, and I just imagined their romantic partners as like filler people in the background. I began to understand that’s not how that would or should work.

I remember telling my mom before that I want a gay girl best friend and her asking why her sexual orientation matters and me having no idea what to say and feeling cringey for saying that. I realize I knew on some level a “gay girl best friend” could potentially be closer than a hetero best friend. I also would love a regular best friend of any orientation or gender. But what I was describing to my mom is even closer and more invested, and I did not consciously realize. I also remember thinking I would like to have a gay girl roommate and “accidentally” fall asleep in bed together. 🤣

A few years ago after conversations with a few people explaining how monogamous romantic attraction/love/relationships work, I realized that a woman is not likely going to have a girlfriend or wife and be able to be that emotionally invested in me and available to me. I remember the sinking feeling when I was told that when someone is in love with someone or even just very into someone romantically, if they aren’t polyam, they don’t usually have any kind of real feelings for anyone else that way.

It just hit me that the only way a woman is going to be that close to me is if she’s romantically interested (or is like me, which is very hard to find), but then if that’s the case, she’ll want more (sexual) than I can give and would probably lose interest in me with me not being completely compatible.

I kind of already knew this on some level, but now saw it at a different angle or on a more conscious level or more defined way or saw it in a different light. I always knew I would likely never be someone’s person, someone’s love. And that has always wounded me off & on throughout life, and now it hit me so hard that I fell into a deep month-long depressive episode when it registered that I may never have the woman of my dreams. And not in the way everyone these days feels they’ll never find their person because dating is just so hard and people just s u c k now but because of the way I’m made. I’m compatible with almost no one. Like most, I only love one woman at once like this but can have multiple close friends.

There are people out there who are like me, and there are people who are not like me but would give up some of what they desire or crave for a relationship with me that I want and still be overall happy & fulfilled. But they are hard to find. And I would never expect someone to settle for me. It would have to be someone who genuinely sincerely truly feels I have something invaluable to offer & would not be essentially less happy with me than someone more compatible even if there’s a lack of something. I can initiate & reciprocate verbal, emotional, physical affection in ways that could feel/appear to be romantic, but I’m not like the average person in terms of sexuality.

It can wear on my sense of self esteem/worth knowing that romantic/sexual relationships are most important in life and not being cut out for them because of the way I’m made and knowing that someone is either going to have to reject me or settle for me. Likely, anyone who ever loves me will always be settling (if it’s romantic) or love someone else more (if platonic). I will never be someone’s person, someone’s top priority. And even if so, there will always be another equally beautiful woman out there who can give her all that I can & everything I can’t.

I wouldn’t mind at all if she has sexual encounters with others, but most are monogamous. I would feel I’m holding her back. It can feel like she’s neglecting/lowering herself, with me enabling it.

It’s like being a half-baked lesbian, a fake gay woman, a cheap knockoff of the real thing. This is only a thought that pops up occasionally, I don’t dwell on it, but it’s unpleasant and toxic to me when it “rears its ugly head,” especially when it’s accompanied by depression.

Asexual people are often told that we are selfish & unfair for wanting a close emotional & physical but. nonsexual relationship, that we aren’t deserving of it because no one can possibly be happy & fulfilled with us even if they say they don’t mind.

The truth is, though it’s exaggerated, I believe there’s a shred of truth to it. Some can be happy & fulfilled with an asexual person & essentially no less happy, but something will always be lacking for them even if it’s not significant enough to really affect them. Still there’s a lack. I either have to selfishly accept they are lacking something with me or never have a close relationship like that.

Knowing this can sometimes wear on my sense of self-worth, knowing I’m inherently not enough, could never be enough, & that I’m not worthy of that love & closeness because I was born lacking a nearly universal, primitive drive that is considered fundamental to being human & essential to the most important relationships.

I have a diagnosed depressive condition. Because I already have this condition that comes & goes, I began to have su*cidal thoughts not just because my dream felt shattered, that too, but because I felt so inadequate and inherently unlovable and unworthy. And I felt like I have been going through life all along not knowing or fully understanding how it works, how normal people operate. I felt subhuman, not only not experiencing but not even truly understanding basic or primitive feelings that are nearly universal, that even children experience & understand.

Being aromantic & asexual since birth can make it hard to understand the nuances of romantic & sexual attractions and relationships even after we learn & grasp the concepts, intellectually. Sometimes it can be hard not to feel so broken in a world that centers around romance & sexuality and expects everyone to have those experiences and values them above all else.

I have often felt invalidated and inadequate when I would hear comments saying or implying that romantic relationships/life partnerships necessarily involve a sexual aspect. I want a relationship with the same level of importance & investment but without the sexual aspect, & always hearing that sexual feelings & activity are necessarily part of that or that sexual activity & feelings are needed for two people to be as close as they can possibly be can make it seem like I’m broken inside or that any relationship I would ever have wouldn’t be as real or valid. Or that if I meet a woman who loves me and feels close to me it still wouldn’t be to the extent as if it was a relationship with a sexual aspect.

I don’t believe it genuinely. There is no doubt two people can be in a nonsexual relationship that is just as loving and fulfilling and happy and intimate as a sexual relationship but without that aspect. But still hearing certain comments and just being so different in that way, it can be hard not to internalize it and feel inferior or broken or not good enough.

These comments & messages by people and society as a whole are not necessarily said to me directly or said about me or asexuality itself, they’re just comments or reflections in conversations or sometimes personal development or relationship books. It’s just kind of understood in U.S. society that sexual relationships are the closest and most intimate. As someone who longs so deeply for a deep, emotionally intimate, relationship it’s hard to hear those mundane comments strongly implying or saying that sexual feelings & encounters are the closest someone can be to someone else & most important.

There are remarks/sentiments I have heard all life long, like to make sure you “test” sexual activity before getting married/moving in together/committing because it will be a “waste” or you’ll “have to cheat” later if they’re lousy at it. As an asexual woman it’s disheartening to know that no matter how loving and affectionate and caring I am none of that matters, my personality doesn’t matter, nothing about me matters, I’m a waste or deserve to be cheated on because of the one thing I was born lacking.

It truly can feel like nonsexual people are inferior or inadequate, not cut out for what is considered the most important kind of relationship in life & lacking what is considered the most important feelings. I don’t think people who are not asexual would understand the feeling of hearing that we’re a waste, that the whole person has to be rejected or thrown out because of that one thing we lack. It’s completely valid to require compatibility in that way in relationships, but it’s also valid to find that it cuts or stings to know that’s the general sentiment.

It’s an insecurity that, when it flares up, can permeate every other aspect of life, making it feel like I’m less as a whole woman, a whole human, like nothing else about me matters because I lack what is considered the most important feeling/inclination, like I don’t matter anywhere, at work or in friendships, or in anything I do since I’m not adequate for what is socially considered the most important kind of relationship & no one could ever want me. It doesn’t matter if I’m a good friend, a good employee, a good person when I’m not good enough for what society values most. It has triggered su*cidal thoughts & urges in me.

There’s also the infantilization of people who don’t have those feelings or don’t have any/much romantic/sexual experience. I have been told that I can’t have an opinion on anything because I don’t have adult feelings or experience & can’t be taken seriously. I have seen people say the same about the Pope/religious people who are celibate & just people who don’t have much relationship experience.

This has occasionally provoked feelings of not being a real adult or real woman or real person in me, feelings of being a useless member of adult society, like I have nothing to contribute, am just one-dimensional, nothing of substance. When my depression flares up with su*cidal urges, this can push me over the edge.

It’s painful to always be erased, overlooked, not believed. It’s no one’s fault if they never heard of us, but to have everyone, including healthcare workers, assume everyone is sexual/heterosexual is suffocating. It’s like being an irrelevant person.

And yet I wouldn’t change my asexuality even if I could because I am made this way, and that itself doesn’t hurt me.

Also, I am wounded, in a way I can’t explain, by the fact I had to suppress my love for other women & live in fear because of a society that is so unaccepting.

I have longed so deeply for a relationship that is just as invested as romantic with some of the nuances. For a love that deep & central to our lives, for my person where we are so close there has never been anyone closer. For a warm tender love that has the core touch of a lover but isn’t quite one, though is beyond typical friendship. I’m not your lover…I’m not your friend… I would Die 4 U.

I saw a YouTube video where a woman was talking about her wife’s su*cide. She said in the beginning, her friends & family were there constantly with her, providing love & support. But it began to fade; everyone went back to their own lives, which is completely valid and expected. Even a close best friend has to get back to her own life. But a wife or girlfriend would still be there if someone close to you dies. She wouldn’t have a different life to get back to if your brother or mom died. You would be her life. She would still be there weeks, months, years later helping you cope in ways even your closest friends & family wouldn’t be.

This is the kind of relationship I have always wanted, the kind where I am important enough to someone that they wouldn’t have another life to get back to. It’s just one of the nuances of a romantic relationship that platonic doesn’t have. I would not expect this of a typical platonic friend. I have just always hoped to meet a woman where we happen to have this inclination for each other. & it hit hard when I consciously realized it’s even less likely and more complex than I thought since I lack some of the feelings that usually go along with this. I used to fear that expressing this would come off as clingy (or gay – and I wasn’t ready to face the homophobia) & that I would be judged for it.

This woman, I loved in a way that I wanted her by my side for life, every day, as close as two people can be. I only knew her briefly and never saw her again. But it was true, passionate love. I still think of her occasionally and those days.

One day, 18 years ago, two years after we met, when I randomly saw her out walking, I decided to walk up and say hello. I’m not outgoing, and we hardly knew each other. When I got up to her, I lost my nerve. She had her back turned to me, walking. I walked right up to her back & was going to get next to her when suddenly she stopped and looked into her bag. I abruptly stopped as well, then walked around her and stopped in front of her, hoping that she would say something to me & we could possibly exchange phone numbers. I looked back at her, but she did not acknowledge me at all. She walked around me and kept going. That was the last I ever saw her.

I remember suddenly becoming very conscious of my hair, thinking she would remember me by that but apparently not. Or I was so insignificant to her that she did not see any reason to communicate with me. If that is true, it wasn’t rude or negative. We likely all have people who aren’t essential in our lives & wouldn’t necessarily go out of our way to talk to them even if we saw them.

The last memory I have of her is watching her walk away in a long Winter coat as I stood feeling so very unimportant, alone, & empty.

She was so much more important to me than I was to her. I got this sinking & empty feeling. I did not have any main/close friends. Her not acknowledging me added to my loneliness. Once in a while that love & longing for her would rekindle even after not seeing/hearing anything of her for years.

I knew I would not be seeing her anymore because she was getting a new job. I experienced grief almost like when someone dies. I remember the empty feeling and the deep grief when I walked by her office and it wasn’t her at her desk but someone else. I already knew it and walked by just to confirm, but it still hit me hard. The pain was so intense I felt the need for some kind of instant relief. It was throbbing. My entire world felt empty & sinking because for two years I built it around her & the hope that she would someday be mine. And then she was gone. I was gutted.

For a while after not seeing her anymore I would actively love her & long for her companionship. Time & distance gradually faded that longing, the love became dormant. Eventually, she became just a pleasant thought that pops into my head now & again through the years. I never forgot her or the impact she has on me. I cherish the memories.

There have been occasions, even years later, where I experienced a wave of sadness that we never got to be friends & all the years of knowing each other were missed.

I can still imagine loving her like that today. I recently saw her on social media (we’re not friends), she’s just as amazing as I remember. I have the same love for her I did back then but not the invested kind I experienced then. It’s very warm, deep love but now lacks the intensity & physical aspect of back then. She’s happily married to a lovely fem girl, for years. They have a college aged daughter, pets, very successful, got the phD she was working on. Her & her family are happy & are surrounded by close friends & family. I’m so very happy for her.

Those feelings of back then probably have potential to be rekindled if we got to know each other & she wasn’t married (not that it matters, she’s married lol And waayy out of my league, always was. I’m not interested anyway). She is still adorable, looks the same, same style, hair, personality. She is still a passionate lgbtq+ activist, her & her wife both. When I have that love for/emotional attraction to another woman, I can easily & happily be their friend, it doesn’t have to be the invested relationship I desire with them. I would love to be friends. But we are total strangers & really always have been.

I don’t belong or fit in anywhere in this sense. I am very attracted to the appearance of other women. My aesthetic attraction to other fem-presenting people is powerful enough to stop me in my tracks & inspire me to stare, feeling intoxicated. I experience a kind of emotional attraction to them that I don’t to men. I can imagine “coming home to” and sleeping in bed with another woman, touching in sensual ways.

Yet, I don’t belong in the lesbian community or lesbian groups because I don’t want sexual contact with them. I see frequently in lesbian groups online the women bashing women who don’t “give head” or don’t “scissor,” saying they’re really heterosexual women who are just using lesbians because they’re tired of men or that they’re a “waste of time” when they go on a date with them only to find out they don’t give it.

An essential part of being a lesbian & lesbian identity is the sexual aspect, & that’s completely valid, but it makes it feel so out of place to be an asexual lesbian. But I’m not heterosexual either in any way. There’s just no place in society for an asexual person in terms of sexuality/romance. And if we have aspects of another identity, particularly a queer one, it’s like our asexuality cancels it out according to society because the sexual aspect is so prominent for most and so valued by society that that’s what the whole identity is reduced to. Sometimes it feels like being basically nothing, and that’s an unpleasant feeling.

Even in the asexual community it’s often like being out of place because it’s full of people who love s*x & “normal” people who just lost their s*x drives because of aging/medications/menopause/stress…and call themselves “asexual now.” True, thoroughly asexual since birth people with the full ace experience are rare even within the community it seems.

People think that anything that doesn’t fit into the perfect uniform boxes that society created (gay, hetero, and cisgender) to shove us all into, so they can feel more comfortable & secure, is just some trend, us jumping on the bandwagon to try to be different, fit in with people who aren’t the norm, or rebel against society. But those strict boxes are social constructs.

Attractions & love are natural things, but saying everyone has to experience that & those experiences for everyone all have to look, feel, & be expressed exactly the same is unnatural. There will always be people outside of the norm who always existed but never had a label or organized community of people like them. People who do not fit inside those perfect boxes.

I never began getting crushes when other kids did; I hardly understood what a crush even is; I never had a first kiss because I have no inherent desire. I have never been on a date or saw anyone I was interested in taking on a date, I never looked at someone at any age & thought I would like to see them with no clothes on.

At every age & stage of life, I have struggled to understand what is driving all of this for everyone else. Since childhood til well over 30 years old. At every age I felt something is off with me & could never say what & was mortified because of what people may think or say about it, & tried my best to fit in by making up stories about having crushes on men.

I never truly understand what “horny” means and have always experienced confusion upon hearing the term “attracted to” or “sexual attraction.” I had no idea what that truly is because no one explains it because they think everyone will begin to experience it and just know. I used to Google “What does horny feel like” and “What does a crush feel like” even at 30+ years old.

It’s interesting because even though this experience was 20+ years ago, it’s still overall so vivid in my mind. And it’s still so profound. Certain minor details may be a bit hazy now, but I still remember all the feelings almost like I’m reliving them. I can still hear her voice & her laugh (I’ll admit I have {rarely} stalked her online since then, out of curiosity, and saw her in a couple of YouTube videos, so that helps 😆 but even without that I remember her voice & laugh back then) The memories of her still feel so familiar, and this experience still feels like “home.”

Recently I walked to the place where I knew her all those years ago. Nothing to do with her. I was there for an event. I have only been there on a few occasions in the last 15+ years. All the memories and feels came flooding back. I could feel her everywhere. It was a mixture of beauty, & pain, joy, & a sense of loss & missed opportunity. It was an unbearable nostalgic feeling. It made me want to go back.

It inspired a brief sense of that yearning I experienced all those years before. I couldn’t tell if it was a yearning for her now or if it was a yearning for what used to be or for what never was but, in theory, could have been. But whatever it was, it was a large wave that crashed into me & washed over me when I walked the streets we walked along back then & remembered that feeling of potential that has now been crushed by time & distance & circumstance & age.

It was so powerful I felt I could buckle at the knees. I remembered being young & the youth I lost along with all the possibilities, I felt the remnants of the giddiness and laughter & joy and young love that I lived back then. I remembered how young she was back then and felt a kind of grief for all the young years we lost and missed out on together (even just as typical friends) and a hint of despair at the fact that back then our lives were just beginning and are now over half over.

I was reminded of the grim fact that if I am lucky enough to meet another woman I have this love for who loves me back, we’ll never have the chance to be young together & won’t have many years together or at least not younger ones. When you meet your person/people, whether platonic or romantic or whatever, back then, you have many years to be young & fairly young together & have memories of being young together years later. Meeting in older age that opportunity is lost.

It can be depressing when I’m in a certain mood. I have had thoughts like this before, particularly when I’m in a depressed or somber reflective mood, but it all hit me with such force then along with the breathtaking nostalgia and flood of memories.

I have experienced this for quite a few women through the years, but my experience with her is one of the most intense. I’m so lucky for the honor of getting to love her back then even if only from a distance.

This is how I love women in my aromantic asexual lesbian way. I decided to share just to put it out there &  in case anyone reads & can better understand what it’s like to be aromantic & asexual but also be oriented. I get many questions/insults by confused & judgey people. And in case anyone who can relate happens to read and understands themselves better or feels less like an outcast. Even many asexual/aromantic people don’t realize we can be oriented and are confused by their tertiary attractions.

This post is inspired by those Prince lyrics people were sharing about Prince not being your woman or your man lol Gives me chills. Seems this song is queer in more ways than one, sounds like he could be oriented aromantic/asexual & nonbinary 😆 Maybe he’s the triple-A, aromantic, asexual, agender 💚

Ramblings of a living kidney donor- frequently asked Q&A 🫘💚

💚🫘

(Words are censored because I sometimes copy/paste posts off of Facebook to here or here to Facebook where certain words can get us a suspension or post removal. They can’t detect context. So I can be posting about donating blood. It will see blood and automatically detect it as violence. Also, I censor common trigger words that people with trauma history may see.)

Content warning ⚠️!!!!! There is a picture of a human kidney in this post!! It will gross you out lol It’s not a scan image, it’s the kidney after it was taken out of my body before it was sent to its new person. I asked the surgeon to take a pic for me 😆😁

Bridge Over Troubled Water – Simon & Garfunkel

Questions we get asked as altruistic/non directed/living kidney donors and my responses:

1.) What if your child/family member needs a kidney transplant in the future, and now you can’t give them yours? Would you regret it?

Nahh.

This is probably the most frequent question.

I could not regret saving/attempting to save a life. I did what I felt called to do when I did. And if someone in my family needed a kidney transplant after I donated to a stranger, I would remember that someone else’s family needed that kidney too and are no less worthy or less important than my family member. I wouldn’t be kicking myself wishing I held out knowing a whole other life is spared and enhanced. Of course if my family member needed a kidney transplant I would have given mine when I had two. But since that wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t regret it if it happens later. How could I regret someone else’s child, mom, grandad, sister, niece, best friend, husband….or just a person being alive??

And I would remember that there are kind people out there who would donate an organ to a stranger like I did and have hope that one of them would help my family member the way I helped someone else’s. I couldn’t imagine not helping someone when I’m passionate about it because maybe someone I know will need me later. That may never happen and then someone would be sick or dying, and I would miss the opportunity to get to experience being a living organ donor. It makes no sense to me to hold out for something that is very unlikely to happen when something is already happening now that needs tending to. Also, who is to say I will be healthy enough later? Health is so fleeting & fragile. I may not be qualified later if my family member needs one. People take good health for granted just assuming we’ll always be healthy. This question shows that in the assumption that I would still be healthy enough later to help a family member. I hope I will. But unfortunately there’s no guarantee. To be a living kidney donor, we also have to be financially fit enough and have appropriate life/work circumstances. At one point years ago my circumstances changed, and I wasn’t financially qualified or able to take off work for recovery and wasn’t sure when/if I would ever be qualified again. I got super lucky when things changed again for the better. There’s also no guarantee my financial/work/life situation won’t change again. I would miss my chance. I am nothing but lucky to have the gift of this very rare experience.

2.) What if your kidney goes/went to a Donald Trump supporter/Republican/some @$$hole?

🤣😂😆😭 As long as it’s not a Cowboys fan, we’re good!

Jk!

Altruistic or non directed kidney donation is certainly not for everyone. It’s not for the faint of heart. There are people who say they would love to donate a kidney to a stranger but are too afraid it will go to someone they feel is undeserving like people with certain political or religious views. I have read stories by people who donated their kidney but absolutely had to be sure it was going to someone who has Liberal political views like them or had to be sure the person has personality traits they like. They can’t be a non directed donor with this frame of mind. It can truly take a toll on someone emotionally to keep wondering if the person who has their kidney is worthy or if they find out who the person is and they don’t measure up to their standards. They have to go looking for a specific person in need and make sure that person measures up. I don’t understand it myself, I could never choose out of a list of people and decide someone is worthy of my kidney but someone else is not or prefer one over another out of multiple strangers, but whatever floats their boat, it’s their body and their journey, and their choice. If they want to save a life but only one they feel is worth it, that is valid. There is a website, MatchingDonors, where potential donors & recipients can browse and read profiles by people offering a kidney and needing a kidney. Like a dating website but instead of finding our perfect romantic match, we find our perfect kidney match. Their pictures show up and any information they share about themselves. I tried it years ago and couldn’t choose. I knew altruistic/non directed donation is for me or if I just happen to see one particular person in need. But I couldn’t choose one of many. I wanted to help them all. Some tugged on my heartstrings more than others. But I could never choose.

It takes a certain kind of person to donate to a random anonymous stranger we know nothing about. It takes more than just compassion. It takes a strong stomach and a certain way of thinking. We have to truly believe every/almost every life matters and detach. We have to accept that our kidney can be keeping someone alive we absolutely would not be able to stand if we met them. Someone with values or personality traits we abhor. We have to feel that we not liking someone doesn’t mean they are less worthy just because we don’t like them. We have to step out of that egoistic, self important way of thinking to be able to be ok with non directed donation. Self important /egoistic in this sense is ok because kidney donation is an act of kindness, not an obligation. It’s completely valid to choose who we would and would not donate to or not donate at all. But it is egoistic to a certain degree, to decide one person is worth it and not another, and it does require us to avoid that sentiment that someone is inferior or unworthy “because *I* don’t like them” because “*my* opinion of them is the one that matters.” If we cannot overcome that sentiment, altruistic kidney donation is not for us. You know how ticked off you are every single day on social media. I see it every single day, my social media friends furiously bashing people of different political or religious views, arguing viciously with people then blocking them and still complaining about them after they’re gone, mocking people they don’t like, even wishing d3ath on certain people, laughing at some people who died. Could you handle it if your kidney was in one of their bodies keeping them alive? My self proclaimed Liberal humanitarian friends relentlessly mock some famous people who die, often because they’re Conservatives, sometimes because they’re greedy billionaires.

What if instead of one of them dying, they were still kicking and with YOUR kidney? If they were healthy and thriving and going on doing whatever they’re doing because your body part is keeping them going? Just imagine. Like I said, it takes a strong stomach lol

The way I see it is that a whole person is just that. A whole person. There’s more to every person than just their views/religion, more than just the aspects we see and cannot stand. They have interests, roles they play to others, goals… whatever I don’t like about them is only one aspect. And someone else loves them just how they are. Why does me not liking them make them less worthy when someone else does like them? My opinion is no more important than the opinion of the person who loves them. Someone isn’t less worthy just because *I* don’t like the person. I may not want to be their friend or not want them in my space, but that doesn’t mean I won’t be their kidney donor.

For example, those Donald Trump supporters. They wake up and drink coffee every morning, they go to work, they laugh at jokes them and their friends tell each other, they walk their dogs, they take their son to a ballgame and take their daughter out to lunch. They go home at night and watch their favorite movie or read their favorite books. They feel the same exact pain you feel when they get injured or sick. They feel the same fear if a g u n is pointing at them or they’re diagnosed with a devastating illness. They have the same longings to love and be loved and to live. If you cut them, they bl33d the same red. They have a whole life other than whatever someone doesn’t like about them. Who is to say they don’t deserve to live it?

I am reminded of Jeremy Bentham asking

Can they suffer?

In terms of whether or not animals are worthy of rights.

“The question is not, Can they reason?, nor Can they talk? but, Can they suffer? Why should the law refuse its protection to any sensitive being?” – Bentham (1789)

To me the question isn’t, Do I like them?, nor Do I agree with them? but, Can they suffer?

Also, are you a potential organ donor? Does your ID say you’re an organ donor? If yes, you may be donating to someone you wouldn’t like some day. You think all your organs that can be donated are going to only people who you would like and agree with on everything there is to agree on? Think again lol (I would not knowingly donate my kidney to a cold blo0ded murder3r, or a known terr0rist or domestic abus3r or serious s*x offenders or someone who has a lot of power and would use it for destructive things,…I would not want to aid in or support their large-scale destructive actions/energy in the world, but if my kidney happened to go to one of them, I would not regret my act of kindness because at least I tried to help, and it doesn’t take away any of the kindness on my part, a loving act is a loving act, there’s two aspects to donating a kidney, the practical help it offers someone and just the fact we did something so amazing. If my kidney went to an a-hole, it’s still an amazing thing I did)

I do not have a preference. I’m a Liberal atheist. If I found out the kidney I gave away is now making pee in someone who is a Christian Conservative and goes around calling people like me “snowflakes” and “sheeple” and “libtards” and “woke” and “commies,” (🤣😂) so be it. I’ll give you my kidney just before blocking you on social media 😆

To me, there is something beautiful about altruistic/non directed kidney donation. Not knowing, not caring who our kidney goes to because every life matters. So universal loving! Of course all kidney donations are equally beautiful. But non directed has this unique aspect to it.

The way I see it, what makes someone worthy of my kidney is the fact that they are suffering/have the ability to suffer, not that they agree with me on something or are a pleasant or kind or compassionate person. We all suffer or have the ability to suffer the same way irrespective of our views or personality traits or likability.

3.) What if you need a kidney transplant in the future?

I’m on the priority transplant list now, so if I ever need one, I can get one fairly quickly. Since I donated a kidney, I won’t have to wait years like the average person in need of a new kidney. I can get a living donor kidney within weeks/months very likely. Even if that wasn’t an option for me, I would have donated. The chances are very slim. And if it were to happen, I would deal with it just like everyone else who needs a kidney transplant deals with it. At least I would be able to say I’m sick because I took a chance and helped someone. So many are sick just because. I have a way better chance of being in a car crash, yet I still get into cars. And no one questions it. I’m much more likely to be a victim of g u n v!olence in the U.S than develop kidney failure, yet I’m out all day & night walking the streets of Philadelphia where g u n v!olence is rampant. And no one (except my mom) questions it or has an issue with it.

I’m rarely to never questioned on why I get into cars or don’t live in a bubble so I don’t get sh0t or ass@ulted or sick. But when it comes to a loving act of kindness to literally save a life, people question why I would or make remarks to say/imply that I shouldn’t have because of a risk to my own safety.

Someone may say getting into cars and going outside are worth the risks because it’s necessary, it’s needed to live life. This kidney transplant was necessary. It was needed for someone to live. That person is no less worthy or important than I am that my needs are worth certain risks but theirs aren’t.

💚💋😘

4.) What ever possessed you to give your organ away to a stranger/to lay on an operating table and risk dying for a total stranger? (Or something of this sort, but “possessed” has come up a few times 😆)

The philosophy that every life matters and that if we have more than enough of something (money, health, resources…) it‘s an even greater gift to share that with someone less fortunate in that respect. Remember all deceased organ donors donate to strangers. And blood donors too. What’s the difference if I’m alive and donate to a stranger? I donate blood regularly to random strangers. What’s the difference? If you checked yes to organ donation on your driver’s license and you die in a way where you can be an organ donor, you’ll be doing what I did, donating to a complete stranger. Is that such a wild cr@zy idea? To reach out and help a fellow human?

🫘

5.) What if you suffer a complication?

I may or may not suffer a complication, but for someone else there is no maybe. A person on dialysis or about to begin dialysis doesn’t have the luxury of maybe that I have. They are already suffering a complication. I’m lucky & privileged to even have that “maybe.”

Also, I hope I would never not do something that deeply resonates with me because of fear. Avoiding things we’re passionate about because of fear, is no way to live, in my opinion. I prefer to take chances if it’s something I truly want and feel called to do and whatever happens happens than living in a safe bubble not fully living and then dying as an old woman. What if I did not do this and wouldn’t have suffered a complication? I would miss out on the experience and always wishing I chose to go through with it and wondering what if I did. It has been on my mind every single day for over five years and on my mind off & on for many years before that. It was never something I could ever regret no matter what. It’s my dream come true!

6.) “I would never give my kidney to a stranger/anyone, you’re a better person than I am.”

This is a response I have received by a few people.

No one is a better person for doing an act of kindness. “You’re a better person than I am” only applies, in my opinion, if you’re going around intentionally interfering with or hurting others while I’m not.

7.) Are/were you scared?

Yes!! It took brass ovaries, and I got’em. The two weeks before surgery, my body would be gripped in a sense of panic waking up in the mornings. Sometimes it would feel that “fight or flight” response. Occasionally it felt like it thought it was getting ready to die. Lol Dramatic. My worst, pretty much only, fear was that I would experience prolonged fatigue when I live a very active life. Thankfully got no fatigue at all! On the morning of the surgery, I woke up completely calm and peaceful & hopeful, no anxiety or fear at all walking into the hospital with my two kidneys getting ready to send one off to a great new home. 💚

8.) What if you die/would have died on the operating table?

Very very unlikely. But what better way to go than in my sleep and saving someone else’s life? 😁

Scars n all 💚
🩷

9.) Have you met/do you want to meet your recipient?

No, I haven’t. And not necessarily. I do not mind either way. I don’t have the burning desire or curiosity that many anonymous donors seem to have. For me it wasn’t a social call but an attempt to enhance & extend someone’s life. If they reach out to me ever, I will be delighted. But if not, I’ll live. Lol Each transplant center has their own rules for when an anonymous donor or recipient is allowed to contact the other, anonymously. Some have to wait up to a year. So my recipient may not be allowed to contact me yet. I was allowed to contact them right away but did not. I may send them a card for our first Kidneyversary next year to brighten their day. My transplant center would send it to theirs. Not knowing who they are or if they’re grateful does not lessen the joy of my experience. Occasionally I’m slightly curious of the age & gender of the person.

10.) Has your life changed since donating a kidney?

Only in my mind. It’s the most amazing experience, I am filled with joy & ecstasy. I understand the meaning of “intimate strangers,” knowing a complete stranger and me are the only two in the world to have had this kidney in our bodies, that we both laid on an operating table on the same morning to become connected to each other forever. I know that everywhere I go, I’m very likely to be the only one there with one kidney. Every room I walk into, I’m the only one there who gave a kidney away and knows this rare unique experience. It’s an isolated feeling but not in a negative way.

After two weeks I was almost 100% my usual self. I jokingly asked if they even took the kidney. After a month I was 100%. I would never know I only have one kidney or had surgery if not for my memories & the beautiful scars.

Here are the lifelong restrictions/lifestyle changes I was told by my team:

1.) No NSAIDS
2.) No natural herb supplements
3.) No supplements made outside the U.S.
4.) Blo0d pressure check every six months
5.) kidney function tests once a year
6.) Extra water

11.) Can you still have kids?

Yes! Having only one kidney does not affect fertility at all. It does make it a “high risk” pregnancy though, so for women/birthing people who donate a kidney and decide to become pregnant later, it’s important to let their healthcare team know so they can be closely monitored to prevent very serious complications to the woman and the unborn. With close monitoring it can be a safe & healthy pregnancy.

12.) Are you religious/was this motivated by religious beliefs? No, I’m an atheist. I don’t need a god or religion to be compassionate or empathetic. My basic humanness is enough. I have felt it as a deep calling, it felt like something larger than me working through me, which is a bizarre experience for an atheist. And I have received what many believers would call “signs.” But I don’t believe in that. It was my desire to help someone that inspired me, and the deep calling feeling was just part of my experience. I don’t believe that any supernatural being would have been disappointed or punished me if I did not go through with it. And I don’t believe it scored me points with anyone or is my ticket into Heaven or some other afterlife. I just wanted to help someone!

💚

Living organ donation isn’t for everyone. These are just my experiences not something that everyone should feel for themselves. For me, living kidney donation truly felt like a calling. It was the easiest decision of this life of mine. I truly experience more stress trying to decide what flavor ice cream I want or if I want tea today or an iced latte 😂 No hesitation, no uncertainty whatsoever. I knew since the day I read a heartwarming story 15+ years before my donation, about a man who donated his kidney to an anonymous stranger, that I would one day do the same. I am 100% happy & thrilled with my decision. 💚🫘

Anyone interested in living kidney donation can check these out:

National Kidney Registry (the National Kidney Registry offers donor benefits like reimbursement for lost wages during recovery and travel/lodging expenses if necessary and a place on the priority list on the off chance the donor ever needs a kidney transplant in the future, also a kidney voucher for a friend/family member {or anyone} of the donor, so if someone they know ever needs a kidney transplant, since the donor donated to an anonymous stranger, they’ll let one person of the donor’s choice get a kidney transplant without waiting long, I donated my kidney voucher to another stranger, so two people are being helped through my one kidney donation)

Matching Donors (this website provides pictures and stories by people in need of a kidney transplant. Potential donors & recipients can browse and communicate with each other. A donor can choose to try to help a specific person, they may not be a match. But if they’re both associated with the National Kidney Registry, the donor can do a non directed donation and donate the voucher to the person they found on Matching Donors – this isn’t just for kidneys but other organs we can donate while alive also. Some people have donated their kidney AND a portion of their liver to different people {not at once lol usually have to wait around a year}! And it’s completely safe!)

Sending love to all!

Random Introduction post/Fun facts about me 💕

💕🎄 I already posted this pic but am out of storage space so here it is again lol

Random introduction post! I have been seeing people posting things like this on social media and decided to be vain so here is mine! Fun facts about me:

1.) I am the biggest sap I know and the biggest hopeless romantic lol I love romantic comedies, love stories, love songs, couples/wedding/engagement photography, Hallmark Christmas movies, they give me all the feels 😆 I believe in love at first sight and true everlasting love lol Give me all the cheesy stuff and I’m good to go
2.) Nearly all the music I listen to each day is 50’s/60’s – Oldies has always been my favorite
3.) I walk 10+ hours a day, seven days a week, for work and for fun; I don’t recommend it because while it’s very fun and keeps me physically fit (not workout level fit but in good condition), I frequently get injuries because of overuse
4.) I have a naturally cheerful temperament but also have s*icidal depression that comes and goes, particularly when I don’t have close in person friends/enough socialization, I’m very social and need basic human companionship consistently. I can be good friends with someone who isn’t very social and comes and goes, but cannot have someone like that as my main or only friend, I need a consistent friendship with enough in person socialization, doesn’t have to be every day, but enough. I wouldn’t try making a friend like that change, just hope to find another who is more social like me
5.) I am very mild mannered and soft spoken and shy and reserved in social settings but still love being around lots of people
6.) People say I have the voice of a child, angel, mouse, Cyndi Lauper…lol I’m frequently told it’s comforting and soothing and have been told my voice should be used as an audio version for kids books. Occasionally strangers think I’m faking it as a joke at first 😂
7.) Some of my interests are: photography, especially night/city/architectural, glitch art, digital art, reborn/silicone babies/hyper realistic dolls(I don’t make them myself, just love them), reading (especially fiction thrillers/mysteries, apocalyptic, psychological, detective, legal, medical…but also like educational stuff), listening to music all day, walking, iced lattes, movies, especially horror and romantic comedies
8.) I am very quiet and calm and not a crier and not very reactive no matter what is happening. My boss says a bomb can be going off and I’ll just be standing there smiling saying oh it’s ok 😆 lol I had teachers throughout school who were concerned about this, but there is nothing wrong with me. It’s just my nature. I’m not emotionless at all, just calm. I have been told by clients that this puts their pets at ease (I’m a pet nanny)
9.) I’m very low maintenance, just give me all the love and hugs and call me pretty and we’re good 😊
10.) I’m very understanding of last minute canceled plans, unreturned texts, stuff like that, I don’t take it personally as long as a friendship isn’t one sided in general or it appears it’s only me someone does that to, people have whole full lives, I am just one part of it.
11.) Now for something not so pleasant. lol I am the biggest slob there is, not like consciously, just am, since I was little. I was told by elementary school teachers I had the worst desk of all the kids, my handbags are always a mess, my boss said he sees trash just hanging out of them, my mom and sister argue with me over it(I live with them), my sister said I have the bedroom of a 17 year old boy, lol pizza crust on my dresser, coffee or milkshake cups spilled over and left there, my bedroom can be on “Hoarders.” lol 😆 It’s the kind of slobbiness that could turn someone right off who is interested in dating me if they found out 😂 We all have to have some flaw though, right? It could be worse lol (not that the slobbiness could be worse, I could have a worse flaw 😆)
12.) Cold weather is my favorite, but I also love the beginning of Spring
13.) I love Christmas and am all decked out for it in Christmas leggings (these are Christmas leggings but may not look it) and other clothing, jewelry every year. I listen to Christmas music all season and like a little kid am joyful over anything Christmasy, even have an empty feeling the day after Christmas
14.) I am a fan of practical jokes, risque jokes, bathroom humor…and just laugh at everything, everyday, like full on bellylaughing. lol My boss says I’m a perv, and my mom & sister say I’m a pig and unladylike and “must have been a guy in another life.” 😂 I always got in trouble for laughing in school during class, and my mom has told me “No one likes a clown!”
15.) Another flaw, I’m not responsible, financially. I buy more expensive lattes than I should, but I never ever ask for or accept money off friends or anything like that. I would never let someone pay for me when we hang out unless we switch it up , I’m not a fan of people who take advantage of others or see people as opportunities
16.) I love kids but never wanted any of my own, not for any particular reason, just no calling for mom life (but I have always loved mommy blogs & jokes lol) Unlike what many assume, this doesn’t mean I don’t like hearing all about your kids, just don’t want my own. I love newborns especially.
17.) I have never been someone with big dreams or very goal/career/family oriented. I could be happy working at Starbucks and living with friends/roommates/pets for the rest of forever. lol I’m a simple girl. I used to see this as a flaw, but it’s just the way I am. My job now is my dream job and what I would do even if I did not need a pay. Only downfall is it’s not an adequate pay to live on my own, not underpaid, but it’s impossible to work enough hours as the traveling (which isn’t paid work) takes up most of the day, not the actual work
18.) Every year in December, since 2019, Amazon shows me my most listened to songs that year, and “Ice Ice Baby” has made it on every list since 2019. lol Who can get tired of it?

If there was a problem, yo, I’ll solve it. 😆

Who can’t use a bit of that motivation each day? 😁

Anyone here relate to any of this? Or are you the polar opposite? Lol Let me know!

Thank you for reading!! ❤️

Sending love & virtual hugs to all who want any. I hope you are having a beautiful day or night wherever in the world you are! 💕

Get to know me survey!!! yeeeaaa!!!

IMG_14166008_1(1)_1

This is a little “get to know me better” bloggy survey!

So here, get to know me better! Lol ;-D

1.) Define yourself in eleven words. Playful, compassionate, alive, mindful, positive, trusting, happy, depressed (only sometimes), loving, amused, inspired

IMG_14166714

2.) Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I’m a very shy extrovert! I love my own company but also love to be around people! I’m not the life of the party, I’m the quiet girl waiting for someone to come talk to me but I feel very uplifted and energized and hopeful in a room full of people whether or not I know them, even if no one is talking to me. I may come off as reserved or socially anxious or introverted or a loner but that’s totally not the case! I’m just shy. But I eventually will open up. You’ll be sorry! Lol j/k

IMG_14166033(1)(1)

3.) What kind of food won’t you eat?

Cantaloupe, Eww!

4.) Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Ahh, this question! I never much cared for it. Lol I just go with the flow, bask in the beauty of now. I’m not much of a planner, especially not that much into the future!

IMG_14169815_1(1)

5.) If you could trade places with one person for a day, who would you be?
This would probably be interesting but I’m not so sure I would trade places even for only a day. There’s no one I want to be other than me. It would be enlightening though to see the world through someone else’s eyes, to live and breathe as someone else. I may like to trade with multiple people throughout the day to get various perspectives. If I can only choose one, I would probably choose someone very different than me in some way like someone of a different culture or religious view or someone with an unusual experience so in combination with my own views and experiences, I can try to deepen my understanding of the world and others in general.

“She woke up every morning with the option of being anyone she wished. How beautiful it was that she always chose herself.” ~ Tyler Kent White

6.) What is your best quality? List two.
My compassion. I’m not always compassionate but generally I have very deep compassion for all living sentient beings, even those who seem difficult to me. I don’t always feel or act on compassion, I can be cold, an asshole, angry…but for the most part I’m very compassionate. And I try to get better and better.

Also my lighthearted attitude and how easily amused I am! I can be in severe pain, physical or emotional and still find laughter and lightness often. It’s a fantastic way to be. It’s so inspiring. Everything doesn’t have to be so serious.

IMG_14168078_zps0qv3kw4g

7.) What book has changed your life? Why? A book called 3:00am. I wrote about it here before! It’s a fictional murder mystery with the main character being someone with a very rare sleep disorder with no known cure and the book really conveys the message of how each minute, each moment, each breath we take is extremely valuable, important, worth acknowledging and savoring. The man in the book only has one hour each day to be awake so he plans literally every minute individually to get the most in life, he goes for a run, reads his favorite books, goes on the Internet, talks to his dad…and plans each and every minute to live to the fullest before he falls asleep for 23 hours. The story is a reminder that each of us only has these moments right here, right now. We don’t have this disorder but we too only have a limited number of minutes to be awake/alive

I don’t always live like this but after reading that book I am changed and realize and live in such a way more than I used to, so that each minute counts and is the best it can be.

“Let’s cherish every moment we have been given; the time is passing by…” ~ Kool & the Gang

Here are a couple excerpts:

“Those minutes are my life, I nearly scream. Those minutes that you take so much for granted because you get a thousand of them each day are priceless to me. Your life is measured by title, wealth, and status. My life is measured in grains of sand, trickling from one teardrop to the other.
My nostrils flare when I’m angry and I wonder if Ray feels a small gust of wind. Taking a calm breath, I ponder telling her that I’m Henry Bins and I have Henry Bins. I don’t.”

(Henry Bins is the disorder named after this man who was the first in the world to be diagnosed.)

“It’s like Christmas, each minute a beautifully wrapped gift just waiting to be opened. Should I allow myself an extra minute in the shower? Could I read three more pages of my book? Run another quarter mile? Watch a YouTube video? Watch the swimming pool scene from Wild Things, twice?”

8.) What is your biggest problem/s in life?
My depressive disorder but it’s not constantly severe or always a problem. It comes & goes. I’m naturally & generally happy & cheerful. But it always comes back to get me. Lol

20150804170015

9.) Who is your role model?
I don’t have one. There’s really no one I try to be like and live up to. Except the Buddha, Buddha Shakymuni, I try to live up to his ways. I want my love, my compassion, my happiness, my selflessness…to mirror his. I don’t always succeed at it and still have a long way to go probably. I am very mortal, fragile, weak next to him, but it’s so good to try. I practice Buddhist meditation, listen to Buddhist songs, attend classes, have Mala recitation beads, and try to live each day inspired by Buddha and practice his Teachings. Dharma is my inspiration and guide. There’s so much I don’t know but I’m learning more & more about Dharma.

IMG_14170000(1)_1_1

10.) Do you have any insecurities? What are they? Yes, I have an insecurity that comes and goes, like my depression does, more likely when I’m depressed. I wish i had a lifelong friend, particularly another girl, who is like family/ sister. Sometimes I feel incomplete and less loved without that. I wish I had a few longterm friendships since we were very young.

IMG_14164364(1)

11.) What do you believe?
??? Well let’s see, I believe we are all One, One with each other, the whole uni-verse, nature, the stars and moon & sun, animals….I often feel very connected to others and the world around me. I always have since I was a little girl but never knew how to put it into words. I am all for universal love, wishing everyone the best, wanting everyone to be happy and well, not at the expense of others though. When one person wins, we all win. When one person or animal dies, a light goes out on all of us. Your suffering is my suffering, your happiness is mine. Even if someone gets the job I want, I can be happy for that person. If someone has what I desperately want and do not have, I can still be happy and congratulate the person. If it’s difficult at first, I can tune into my wisdom of Oneness.
I don’t always feel this way even though I believe it. Sometimes I’m depressed and do not feel connected to anyone or anything. Sometimes I’m lonely or jealous or uninspired. But I always find my way back.

12.) Does blogging enrich or better your life? Yes! Both the people I meet/communicate with and my own writing. I write for others and myself. I know every post may not be read by someone or “liked” or liked but it’s still worth it to write and share. It will always be here for anyone who may find it and for me. I don’t always publish everyday but I do write for the blog every single day. I am inspired almost everyday, some days the whole day, some days only one moment but each day I find something to inspire me or just feel inspired. I am inspired by what I read, see, feel…..and love to share and uplift or inspire others as well. Writing for here helps me think more clearly and in a more deep way. Sometimes my own writing inspires me! I have a whole collection since 2012 to look back on whenever I want. Once in a while WordPress suggests an old post to read after I publish a new one and I check it out and it’s years old and still so inspiring! It’s especially helpful when I’m depressed or in severe physical pain with a headache and I look back on an old post of mine and know I felt that way and can feel that way again. Other people’s positive thoughts and writing can be so uplifting, inspiring, and helpful but there’s a certain kind of hope and inspiration knowing I felt that way myself once and have it in me to feel that way again. My cover photo on Facebook says “Life is beautiful.” I don’t always feel that way. Often but not always. And when I’m depressed/suicidal or having an agonizing headache, when I see that, I am reminded that I once felt that life is beautiful and can feel that again. Can feel that way NOW! Or soon.

Most of the stuff I post here is timeless and can apply to anyone. I share my own experiences but try to in a way so anyone at all can relate. Not everyone has depression or headaches but when I write of my experiences with those, I try to make it so anyone can take any problem no matter how minor or serious, and relate. Most of us have basic empathy to relate to one another and we can deepen it.

I feel that writing for here also strengthens my positive attitude in general. It reinforces it, maintains it. I would be positive anyway mostly, but this deepens it and helps me be positive in moments I may not be without it.
It helps to strengthen my habit of looking on the brighter side of life. I write here of my struggles and my positive way of handling them. Sometimes I don’t feel like handling them positively but I am reminded of what I share here frequently and often get inspired to be more positive. It’s like a reminder to myself while also potentially helping or reminding others. And I love when I get comments, likes, and shares. ❤

Since I make this mostly a positive place but also genuine, I do admit my flaws and less than pleasant qualities and situations but I highlight my strengths and good qualities and it carries over into life off of the blog. I remember to admit my weaknesses but also appreciate my strengths and blessings more.

13.) What kind of music do you like to listen to?
I love all kinds but especially Oldies, country, and inspirational! I love love songs and ones with deep meaning and positive messages. I also like angry death metal! Lol! They never get old!

14.) four facts about yourself:

IMG_14167710(_1

1.) green & pink are two of my favorite colors
2.) if I were to die I would love if my organs can go to someone in need “Don’t take your organs to Heaven, Heaven knows we need them here!”
In fact, I would love to give one of my kidneys to anyone in need even when I’m alive. I heard the transplant is more likely to be a success with a living donor. Want my kidney? You can have it if you desperately need it to live(I’m not going to sell it to people trying to get money or something…)!! Just let me know. (if I’m allowed to give it, I heard living donors who want to give a kidney to a random stranger must endure some grueling hours of psychiatric evaluation. And I have severe, severe depression off & on but I’m not trying to die, I know what I’m in for! But the doctors may think I’m not thinking clearly because of my history of suicidal depression. But I can assure them I am! I just want to help! It is not without risks and won’t be always easy, but it’s worth it and the medical people make it as safe as possible. I want someone to live. I have two perfect, beautiful kidneys, I only need one!! I have no money so hopefully it doesn’t cost anything on my part! Lol) I don’t want anything in return other than someone living.
Since I was a young girl I have been deeply touched and inspired by the idea of organ donation even though I have never been personally touched by it.
I always had a strong desire to help.
I have known for as long as I can remember that I want my organs to go to someone else when I no longer need them. The only reason is that I want someone else to live. There are so many waiting for an organ and there are many organs that would save people’s lives but the person does not consent to donation. Every single eligible person can help.
I don’t care who they go to. People have asked me, “But what if your heart goes to a ‘nasty,’ ‘undeserving,’ ‘no good,’ …..or whatever other unpleasant adjective….person?!” First of all, most people are not nasty or no good. So that is unlikely. Also it’s better to take the chance of saving an “unworthy” person than not and a “good” person dies. But anyway, everyone deserves to live!

But I don’t judge those who refuse to donate their organs before or after death even though I wish everyone would after death! I understand and it’s your choice. Organ donation is a beautiful gift and it’s amazing how doctors can perform transplants! What a gift! To have parts of someone else to keep us alive! To give parts of our self to keep someone else alive! Incredible beauty!
Thank you doctors, nurses, technicians….& organ donors/families & beautiful people!! <333 ❤ Thank You, thank you!! So many people are alive NOW because of the love of organ donors and their families and the love and hard work of the medical professionals involved.

3.) I’m reading a beautiful novel, that I just found accidentally, about a heart transplant and the pain & beauty of the families involved, how one young woman lives because another young woman died, the guilt and gratitude she experiences and the resentment the dead woman’s husband has for the family who received the heart. It’s called “Irreplaceable” and conveys so many mixed emotions both painful and beautiful that all involved experience.
4.) I have hipbone length hair and don’t ever want it any shorter.

IMG_14169840(1)_1_1_1

15.) What eleven words do NOT typically describe you?
Motivated (I’m a lazy bum), organized (I’m a slob & a wreck), greedy (obviously! See above, I’m ready to give you my kidney!), athletic(sports bore me…and I’m lazy!), aloof(i love being close to others both physically and emotionally – I love hugs!), stressed(I’m often calm and handle things well and work well under pressure), dramatic (I’m quiet and balanced – usually), loud (I have a tendency to scream when people walk in my room {it could be an axe murderer for all I know!} but other than that you won’t even know I’m here!), tenacious (the description for zodiac sign for me, insists that I am/should be stubborn but I’m quite the opposite!, I am extremely easy-going, trusting, and have even been called a “push-over” on occasion!), sensitive (in the sense that I’m not easy to offended or hurt emotionally, I can handle constructive, jokes, sarcasm…), moralist/sanctimonious (I don’t like acting like I always know what is right or acting like I live better than anyone else)

Is that eleven? I sort of lost count! 😉

I hope your day is going amazingly!!

And hopefully you got to know me/know me a bit better?!

If you want, take the survey and let me know! I would just love to see your answers! One of my favorite things to read is “about me” pages & random facts about people. It’s so fun seeing little glimpses of who someone is. ❤

Hugs & love to you, always!

😀

Fun facts about meeee <3

image

I saw a random blog challenge “get to know me facts” and I love to get to know people and love listing random, useless, but fun facts about me! So here goes!

I did a couple of these before too.
;-D

1.) I love dogs (and all animals) and have six! Three boys and three girls. They are my princes and my princesses! They are the center of my universe and are the most spoiled little things! Four of them sleep in bed with me regularly at night and sometimes five do. They steal my blankets and pillows and it’s annoying but also adorable and I let them keep them. I’m quite serious when I say my world revolves around them. Lol I usually make sure whatever food I’m eating is safe for dogs so when they’re begging I can give them some even if I prefer a different kind of food that they can’t have! My family celebrates their birthdays and all the anniversaries when they were adopted or came to live with us! They get their own Christmas stocking and everything they want. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

2.) I’m a very shy extrovert but probably live more like an introvert. I would love being surrounded with people day and night if I had the opportunity but I can be just as happy being in my room reading, meditating, or listening to music alone. I love people but also love my own company

3.) I have almost always had a positive body image. When I was a little girl I thought people on TV could see me through the screen and I thought they thought I was the most adorable thing. I had a short denim skirt that was my favorite and I would put it on and dance around the room, showing off, while watching TV, especially that old movie “Pillow Talk” (it was my favorite movie) so they would all see how beautiful I was! Lol

4.) I don’t watch tv because I just have no interest but I love the TV show “King of Queens” when it’s on in my house. It’s so funny! I have the theme song on my phone!

5.) My favorite music is Oldies music. Like old old. I’m not talking about 70’s or 80’s although I like some of that too. I’m talking about 50’s music and also 60’s. Ooollllddd ass music! Lol Oldies was my favorite for as long as I can remember but I used to be too embarrassed to tell people, especially other kids, until I was in college. As a teenager I would look up lyrics to all the “coolest” and latest songs just so I was able to join conversations with other kids about music and act like I loved all the same music. I wouldn’t dare spill my dirty little secret that I only listened to those Oldies but goodies! I even used to change the dial on my handheld radio when I put it down in case anyone picked it up and “caught me” listening to oldies. Lol! Now I will proudly scream it off the rooftops. I don’t care what they say I won’t live in a world without Oldies! (I think I shared this fact on here previously somewhere!)

6.) I love so much when I’m selected for jury service. I love every single thing about it. I love the criminal justice building, center city Philadelphia, learning about the process, the juror sticker, the lunch break, the chairs, the people, the forms, the TV screens, the hallways and rooms, the feel of it, the big room, all the energy I feel being surrounded by all those people ….i would volunteer every week if I could. I wish I were selected every year instead of every other year. I was never selected as a juror and I am so disappointed. 😦 I always wanted a civil case but criminal ones are interesting too.
I heard if someone gets put on a trial the person may not get selected again for like over a decade so maybe it’s good I don’t so I don’t have to go that long without being called again! Most people I hear of try to go to great lengths to get out of it. I would go to great lengths to get into it. Lol like maybe coming up with a fake last name just to get selected more than once every other year! ;-D

“It’s your turn!” lol

7.I’m good at debating. I can blow your mind with my skills. Lol

8.) I always thought I would love to be a model. To try different hair and clothing styles, expressions and makeup and poses! So fun!

9.) I love writing.

10.) I am so easily amused over the dumbest things all throughout everyday even when I’m not in a happy mood and it gets me into trouble but it’s ok, at least I’m having fun and it’s uplifting to be this way! I am so annoyed when I’m angry at someone but also amused and I cannot stop laughing because then it makes it so people probably won’t take my anger seriously!

11.) I love dark poetry better than the happy kind – not because I’m sad and dark, I’m not usually dark and gloomy and even when I’m happy I love it! I’m just in tune with the dark side. It’s beautiful to capture the darker side of life in photos or poetic writing. But I love happy songs, movies and endings to books, usually better than sad ones.

12.) I’m very interested in things that have to do with law. Philosophy of law is a fascinating subject!

13.) I sit around completing logic problems just for fun and I have as much fun as people when they’re on vacation or traveling, just doing this! It gives me the greatest thrill!

14.) I don’t drink alcoholic beverages ever and the only reason is it doesn’t appeal to me just like certain food doesn’t. I’m not morally against it or afraid of becoming addicted, although addiction runs in my family, severely. I never had more than a few sips in my whole life and that was years ago.
But alcoholic bottles, cans, and signs are some of my favorite things to takes photos off. Along with cigarette packs.

image

I found this under a bridge one night.

15.) I’m not afraid very easily and generally not prone to anxiety. I’m not afraid of needles or blood or hospitals or surgery or rodents or insects or anything. And I have a strong stomach and don’t get queasy over that stuff.

16.) I would never go skydiving or bungee jumping and roller coasters terrify me. But I think it’s impressive and am tempted just to show off lol

17.) I love holidays but I don’t go all out to celebrate, only in my head. I love the feel and I just bask in the energy, sense of unity in the air, and decorations and beauty all around during the holiday seasons!

18.) I’m not very thoughtful with buying gifts. Some people are so good at choosing the most personalized, touching gifts. Not me. I have no idea what to buy people. My thoughtfulness manifests better in my words or intention to help in some ways, I’m good at writing and expressing my appreciation or well wishes for people even if it’s just a brief Facebook message or blog comment…or thinking of little details that may help make something easier for someone.

19.) I don’t have an aversion to any part of the body, mine or anyone else’s. I see/hear of so many people who claim to not stand people’s feet, even their own (it’s strange how many people I see writing this! Like it’s a trend now or something?). Ummm…it’s part of the body, the way it’s made to be. And some people are disgusted over brain or stomach related things like the acid or fluid! Again, it’s part of the beautiful human anatomy! Not disgusting. Lol
Imagine not having those things! We would be in trouble! The whole body is beautiful.

20.) I wear old fashioned kind of clothes I guess. No leggings or skinny jeans for me! I love only flare pants and low cut shirts. The same kind of clothes I have been wearing for over a decade. I also don’t care that my bra straps often show even though I see people making fun of girls online for their under garments showing. Lol

21.) I go out with my hair wet right after a shower. I read about a study that says most people perceive girls who go out with wet hair as being lazy and sloppy. Oh well, I am lazy and sloppy, think what you will! 😀

22.) I have a strange memory. I can remember birth dates and other dates extremely well and I can remember facts really good but I cannot for the life of me remember to do things I’m supposed to do or all the things I’m supposed to buy at a store. I can’t remember phone numbers either, including my own!

23.) my mom says I have the mentality of a man which she thinks is disgusting and she’s convinced I was a man “in another life.” I like “dirty” songs and memes. I think perverted jokes are hilarious and things that have to do with bodily functions and text them to her just to freak her out. I can be very immature. Lol

24.) In high school, I had perfect attendance all four years, not one day missed. I loved school and rarely got sick. No matter how much pain I was in, how tired I was, how badly I wanted to roll over and go back to sleep, how horrible the weather was….i got up and out the door. There were even some days my mom encouraged me to stay home like if there was a snowstorm but school was still in session or when I would be in severe head/face pain which was related to my pain disorder but I did not know back then, but I was determined to soak up every day of school I could. Luckily I never had anything serious like influenza or something where I would have had to stay home or I would have put everyone else in danger because I wouldnt risk getting others sick! So it’s all because of my health and my determination. At our graduation, three of us had perfect attendance all four years. More did for three, more for two, and even more for one year.

and there’s this as well:

It seems I have a thing for showing up.

25.) physical description: I’m 5 feet 5 inches and always wished I was taller but I love wearing 5 or 6 inch stilettos and I feel super tall when I do! And I love it! I have blue eyes with a large green splash in each one. So when I wear green eye shadow or green shirts, my eyes usually look completely green. I have long hair, a bit longer than waist length and it’s naturally a medium shade of brown with natural orange and blond highlights. Some lighting can make it look more blonde while others can make it look more red/orange. But it’s brown. I love it and never put hair dye in it. I don’t change my hair style ever, I never get tired of it. I just trim it occasionally.

image

26.) I never needed glasses or contacts but I think glasses are cute and if I needed glasses I would choose them over contacts. Also, less dangerous even though they probably have more complications than contacts.

27.) I have always loved brown eyes. They are so warm and lovely. But I think all colors are pretty.

28.) I don’t really plan things and don’t mind having plans change at the last minute or planning things on the spur of the moment. I’m easy-going and procrastinate with things and am messy and disorganized. I’m not a perfectionist(although sometimes I wish I were perfect – whatever “perfect” is.). It’s not all good but it’s also a lot less negative stress to be this way, I think, than one of these “type A personalities.”

29.) I love when there’s something I swore up and down I would never like, do, or wear then I come to love it! Example: flats. I always disliked flat shoes and said I would never wear them. Ever. I thought they were ugly and just Eww but now I love flats and have a few pairs. I actually had many pairs but my dog chewed them along with a few pairs of my stilettos! Also, cheeses fries with ketchup on them! Eww! I used to see kids eating them in high school and it was disgusting! Then one day in college I ordered cheese fries at one of the window stands and clearly said no ketchup when they asked and they put ketchup on but I was so hungry I tried them and loved them! And I promised I would never read fiction books. I thought it was a waste and only wanted to read education stuff now I LOVE fiction after reading a fiction book just because I liked the title and it inspired me to try more now I’m hooked! And I love how fiction isn’t restrained by the rules of reality even in realistic novels and anything can go!

30.) I’m extremely forgiving and probably couldn’t hold a grudge if my life depended on it, especially when people say sorry or appear to be sorry. It comes very naturally to me, it’s not even like I have to make it a point to try to forgive usually, it just comes easily, automatically. But sometimes it doesn’t and I accept or work on it.

31.) I’m also extremely trusting to the point I’m stupid. And I trust the same people over and over and over no matter what they keep doing.

32.) I believe people are basically good. Some go above and beyond the goodness of the average person and most everyone does not good stuff now and again but I believe deep inside we’re pretty much all good.

33.) I am very easy to please. Very, very. I’m satisfied with nearly every movie I watch, every book I read, all the food I consume, every gift I receive. But once in a while(rarely) I do read a book I dislike and am not used to the feeling it provokes in me. I recently purchased a book about a Christmas story and a mystery baby and it really isn’t that good. It made no sense to me, like the point. I have some sense of it though. And also it just isn’t that interesting and I felt that my night was wasted because I stayed up all night reading it just to find out the answer to the mystery. I usually just stop reading when a book isn’t good but I wanted to see the big mystery! And it was a disappointment anyway!
Lol I don’t care about the wasted money and anyway it was only $1.00 and someone is probably being helped by the money that goes to the book so that’s good. It’s my wasted night I can’t get back. But it’s not really “wasted.” It was my choice and I would never have known if not for staying up reading. I love thinking back even a long while later, to when I read certain books and the feelings they bring back.

34.) Greasy food is heaven to me, the greasier the better!! I love Mcdonald’s french fries but they were better when they were more greasy and less healthy, they tasted better but now they got healthy I think. Still delicious though. I think our president’s wife got to them with her health freak ways! Lol

35.) Coca Cola is my favorite soda!! I drink it everyday! I think it’s the least healthy soda too. I drink water at night now and early in the morning more than soda but all day it’s Coca Cola all the way! I can tell the difference right away with Pepsi and Coca Cola. Many people say they taste the same. Not to me! Pepsi is weaker. And less and different flavor. And I take pictures of Coca Cola trucks whenever I see one!

fm-1415127993

36.) I love animated, kiddie movies like Toy Story, Arthur Christmas, and the Nightmare Before Christmas!! My dog is named Woody after the doll in Toy Story. It’s actually Dagwood and we call him Woody! He’s less than four months old!

IMG_14045484

37.) I’m not a crier(sp?) for me, it’s not my cup of tea. No matter how happy, joyful, sad, or depressed I am, I will not cry over it. Lol I am good at remaining calm and composed. I experience deep sensation/emotion but it doesn’t provoke me to cry.

” Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head
But that doesn’t mean my eyes will soon be turning red
Crying’s not for me
Cause I ain’t gonna stop the rain by complaining” ~ Bj Thomas

38.) When I was a little girl, I had a bad habit of picking stuff up off the ground. Anything I could get my hands on. My mom used to scream in horror over the stuff I picked up. Unsanitary stuff, leaves, earrings, pins, old razor blades, hospital bracelets, stones, acorns and pine cones…sadly I haven’t outgrown that habit for some reason. Not so long ago I picked up a tube of something thinking it was paint. It was testosterone gel, that stuff advertised on commercials warning women and children not to touch. I touched it.

(a little something I found under a bridge one night – it’s empty and I don’t smoke cigarettes)

39.) I like to dance around my room late at night and very early in the morning while the world around me is sound asleep. I listen to music and dance dance dance…usually gratitude meditations can trigger this.

😀

Xoxo Kim

If you really knew me…<3

So this is a blogging trend and I decided to do my own.

It’s just random facts and things that people may or may not know about me! Maybe you’ll find them interesting, maybe not. Maybe they are useless, maybe pointless, or maybe fascinating! Yay! Lol 😉

So if you really knew me..

You would know that I’m a makeup junkie and love getting dolled up at all hours of the day or night. Sometimes I don’t put my makeup on until late at night just before retiring to bed just because I feel like it. Or I wash off my makeup that is already on and go for a different look. Lol. Sometimes I straighten my hair before bed even though I’m only going to get a shower in the morning and it will go right back to it’s extra wavy, sometimes almost lightly curly self! And I prance around in 5 inch stilettos in my house sometimes at midnight and put on dresses. Yeah, don’t ask…. 😉

You would know that I am a self-help/inspiration junkie who loves self-help books, blogs, websites, articles, whatever I can find and I can find inspiration in just about anything. And want to teach the world all I can. ❤

You would know that I am extremely simple but not dull.

Girls are often known for being complicated or complex and somewhat hard to figure out. But not me! 😉 And while I have a rich inner-life/thoughts and stuff I am easy to understand when I say something there’s usually not some underlying implication for people to have to analyze or interpret or rip apart to understand. If I say “that’s ok.” It IS ok! I don’t expect people to be my mind readers. If I had a boyfriend, I would tell him like it really is and not expect him to have to delve deep inside to figure out what in the hell I’m actually talking about. If I say, “do what you want” then do what you want! Lol. Straight talk is what’s up! I don’t make things more complicated than they have to be. I am willing to compromise, even give some things up to avoid big blow ups. And since my family is looney, I have learned even better how to be more simplistic to avoid lots of bs.

You would know that I generally don’t get angry, anxious, or even too unhappy when things accidentally don’t go as planned. I just go with the flow even when plans turn out to be a wreck. Stuck in traffic? Oh well, I’m here what can be done now?! Someone Cancels at the last minute? Alrighty I’ll just make new plans!

You would know I’m a lazy kind of girl. Truly! I don’t have that “A” kind of personality that people speak of. I’m not uptight and perfectionist-like. Noperz! I just take things lightly, I procrastinate, I’m a slacker. Lol. But I won’t let others down and at my job I do the best I can. Yup! Lol 😉

You would know that I love my gossip just as much as the next girl. But I won’t gossip in a way that will hurt anyone or to people who will blab someone’s stuff to someone else.

You would know that I don’t watch tv and haven’t in years. I cannot bring myself to sit and watch a television show but I know there are so many I find interesting. I don’t know about tv or all those tv shows people speak of these days and all those young/new celebs and reality tv. Nothing wrong with watching tv, it’s just not my cup of tea!

You would know that I am what is considered an “open book”. I’m good at expressing myself, sharing my stories, struggles, dreams, happiness, pain, anything really. Even to people I don’t really know.

I am shy but not secretive or shady. I can keep other people’s secrets but don’t really have many of my own.

You would know that I’m very easy going, easy to get along with, super friendly but very shy at first.

You would know that I feel other people’s pleasure and pain almost as if it were my own even if I don’t know them or just read about them online. I once stumbled upon a beautiful girl’s blog who was getting married in just a few days.

And I could just feel her immense joy and elation and so much happiness for her. The anxious-ness, the disbelief! The “omg! This is really happening!!” feeling!! I felt as if it were someone so close to me getting married, like my sister or friend, or me, myself! And I never even met her!

❤

You would know that I’m extremely patient. Good with kids and difficult people. I work at a store where people change their minds often after I already make up their ice cream hot fudge sundae with crushed cherries, pineapples, wet walnuts, extra whipped cream, carmel and chocolate syrup and cherry on top to a large ice cream cone with rainbow sprinkles. Lol! I just make it over, no problem!

And they are usually very friendly about it and apologize frequently but I tell them there’s no need! You should get what you want!

You would know that I think I would love to and be good at working with special needs kids. They require so much love and care and patience and I just am bursting with all of that and would love to care for them.

You would know that “misery loves company” is not really true for me. When I’m miserable I usually like to know that great things are still happening to other people. One day not so long ago I was in a low mood feeling like a failure and like nothing would ever go right for me, like I wouldn’t accomplish anything, ever. Then I saw a group of beautiful young women in a wedding, walking up the street towards me. A stunning young bride in a gorgeous white dress that clung to her and all her gorgeous bridesmaids holding beautiful red flowers and wearing clingy black dresses, all in stilettos, with their hair all beautifully fixed.

It immediately uplifted me. They were all genuinely glowing and getting their picture taken together. I thought to myself my world kind of sucks today but at least all is right in their world! ❤ 😀

You would no that I’m know grammer or spellin’ nazi! Don’t care!! Lol. As long as I get the gist of what someone is saying/writing it’s alright with me! And yup! I spelled those words wrong on purpose as a joke! Lolz. I’m a joker!

When people are debating or arguing online and start attacking each other for spelling and grammar, to me it’s a sign of weakness in their arguments. They probably don’t have a strong enough argument or points so they resort to attacking spelling mistakes. Or they are just bitter for the other side and want to get them however they can. :-/

You would know that I’m the biggest fan of Oldies, 50’s and 60’s music that you’ll probably ever meet and always have been for as long as I can remember!! If it’s an oldies, I can guarantee you I probably know it and the name of the singer/band who sings it. And in school, as a young girl, I would lie to other kids about it and act like I liked the music they liked. The newest, “coolest”, trendiest music. And I would search the lyrics online and facts so I would be able to join in and answer questions that I was asked! I wasn’t about to spill my dirty little secret! Lmao! When I was 18 years old in college I finally quit my lies and embraced my true, passionate love for Oldies! Now I’m a PROUD Oldies lover! And I’ll scream it off the rooftops! Mmmm hmmmm! ❤ 😉

You would know that I’m kind of a “good girl”. Never got in much trouble anywhere, never enjoyed the club scene or been bar hopping, don’t care about loud crazy parties, never hosted any or been to many, never been to college parties….no alcohol or cigarettes for me. I like staying home, Reading, cafes with friends, restaurants, movie theatres, walking….things of that sort.

You would know that I’m the kind of girl who goes to great lengths no matter the cost to myself, to help others whether or not I know them.

One day I dragged my ass to the acme and 1:00 in the morning because I found out the gay/straight alliance in college was having a bake sale to get money for awareness for lgbt issues and I just knew I had to help so I bought stuff to make cookies!! Lol!

You would know that I rarely negatively judge people. No matter how different they are than me. No matter how “unusual” or “abnormal” they or the things they do are. I’m laid back, easy going.

You would know that I don’t understand math or politics for the life of me no matter how much I try but still find those subjects fascinating. Seriously, I couldn’t do a basic addition Math problem to save my life. But I can write good essays and research papers, or so I have been told. Lol. So I’m not completely dense. I guess? Lol 😉

You would know that I’m absent-minded as can be. I lose things. I lose money, probably more often than not. I lose 20 dollar bills a lot. I forget where I put things. I look at the clock to see what time it is and am not paying attention and have to look again, I walk into a room and forget what on Earth I’m doing in there. Lmao! I’m a disorganized mess!

You would know that I’m easily amused. Very. Very easily amused. I laugh at everything and nothing. At myself and all! The most inappropriate things and the most “boring” (according to others) things. When I’m in the movie theatres I’m the one still laughing hysterically long after everyone else has stopped. Lol! I laugh when I’m alone and with people. But I don’t like jokes that have to do with death or disease. I don’t laugh at those. They are cruel and they disgust me. I don’t like jokes about presidents being killed and the Titanic sinking. I don’t care how long ago it was. I don’t like jokes about Michael J. Fox and his Parkinson’s Disease. That is vicious. I don’t like jokes about suicide victims. That is low. I’m very easy to entertain. 🙂

You would know that I’m not easily offended. And I don’t always take things too personally or too hard. Life just isn’t meant to be taken so seriously!! 😀

You would know that I used to mostly always only dress in black when I was a girl. About 20 (or a bit younger) – 23 or 24 years old, only wear dark makeup, black nail polish. Lots and lots of bracelets, piercings all over (still wear the bracelets and have the piercings). I was constantly labeled as “goth” or “semi-goth” and called the gothic girl frequently. But I myself have never considered myself goth. But never minded the label. Now there’s much color in my world. I paint my nails various colors, wear colorful clothes….

You would know I love reading facts about people whether or not I know them. I love reading people’s bio sections, their favorite color, favorite food, “weird” quirks, funny stories, personal blogs about their families and kids and happy lives, even what many consider “boring” facts, lists such as this. I just love people and their lives!

❤

You would know that I love babies. My heart melts at the sight or sound of them! I wouldn’t mind watching someone’s or holding a big baby and as a girl, I loved playing dolls, house, kitchen, but I never not once wanted a kid of my own and I know I never will. Just zero desire, not my cup of tea. Doesn’t interest me. Not for any specific reason. As much as I adore kids I just don’t have that natural desire that I guess most girls have, to have kids. I have been criticized for that one but guess what….? I don’t care! Lol 😉

You would know that I am also the biggest fan of sappy love songs, specifically old ones, and I love my sap! I love love and friendship and songs and poetry that conveys the warmth of it. I love romantic comedies and friendship movies….

I guess this is it for now! Thank You for getting to know me better! ❤

P.S. When I get a shower, it usually steams up the medicine cabinet mirror. Which is the mirror I like to use to put my makeup on because I can get closest to it. I can’t keep the door open because my dad’s parakeets can get out. I got tired of it always being steamed up and even when I make an attempt to clean it with a towel, it smears and gets worse or whatever. So today I came up with the absolutely brilliant idea to put a towel over it! So the steam wouldn’t get to it! I felt proud of my sudden great idea! So after the shower I ripped the towel off and……. Much to my surprise, it was steamed up anyway! Lol! Words cannot express my disappointment and confusion! I stood there for like two minutes all grim and doing nothing! And then? I laughed at myself and went about my day! Yeah this is probably like the most random thing you have read all day! I know. But I just felt like it!

😀

You just gotta love me! :-p
